Armelle Van Hauwaert

Hi, I'm the owner, administrator and your contact person for Norway Outdoors.
I'm born in Belgium and have been working here in the East of Norway, Femund area for 11 years now.
I studied Tourism. Before I started my own travel agency here in Norway, I have been working for 10 years for and with several travel agencies specialised in adventure or culture. The last 11 years I have combined this with guiding groups for nature and wilderness trips in Summer and Winter in Norway, France, Belgium and Canada and instructing open canoe on flat water and white water.
I will be glad to answer all your questions or requests in French, Dutch, English and Norwegian.
My favorite season in Norway is the Winter: cross country skiing, cosy evenings, silence . I love hiking to enjoy stunning views over the landscapes, music, humour and social contact. You will find my complete resume here.

Peter

Peter is my partner in life and in work. He is the main guide for our activities. He is also responsible for the logistics and makes sure all the equipment our guests get to use is in a perfect state: canoes, sleeping bags, life jackets, snow shoes, pulka's, bus, ... . He has been working as a wilderness and canoe instructor/ guide summer and winter for more than 15 years in this area and more than 25 years in total. He also works part-time in Belgium and France for his Canoe school . He built his knowledge and experience in Canada and by taking courses in Canada (FQCC), USA (ACA), UK (BCU). Peter loves the silence and the pureness of the area. His favourite activity is spotting animals without disturbing them in the winter on snowshoes and in the summer with his canoe on rarely visited, unspoiled places. Almost forgot to say, he was a restaurant chef in a previous life; meaningless to say that offering good and healthy food is important for us. You will find his complete resume here.
Partners and spirit
During your stay and the activities you book you will meet some of our partners.
We work with both local specialised guides that speak English and with guides who will speak your language depending on the activity, the group and the program. Your hosts in the guestfarms, cabins or lodges are all working with the same spirit as us. We want you to experience the Norwegian nature and culture in the best circumstances and will guide, help, advice and give you the best tips both before and during your stay.
Our main purpose is to make Norwegian nature and wilderness but also culture and tradition accessible for our guests in an enjoyable, safe and genuine way.

Sustainable tourism
During the trips we guide and the courses we give; we respect the pace of nature and participants. The result is a cosy, respectful and
relaxed atmosphere that is as much enjoyable for the participants as for us. We will guide you in different areas and locations in order to keep our footprint small on the nature we borrow. During our trips we tend to sleep and/or eat at least once with locals. This is not just in order to meet local people and get to know local culture but also to support the local economy. We accept maximum 14 particpants per group, to reduce our footprint but also to encourage personal contact. Generally you will be guided by at least two guides, for security reasons but also because we all have our strengths and affinities.
